Taipei mayor Ma Ying-jeou yesterday announced the city will switch its phone system to voice-over-Internet Protocol, or VoIP, with the intention of saving NT$30 to NT$40 million a year to help provide better lunches for students.
At the initiation ceremony of "Taipei Easy Call," Ma said the new service would solve the issue of meal quality for school students. The first user of "Taipei Easy Call," Ma publicized that his VoIP phone number is 0700819819, which sounds like "0700 Ma Ying-jeou Ma Ying-jeou."
If Taipei citizens have comments or opinions on this new service, they are welcome to phone him at this number, Ma said.
Stemming from the idea of Taipei being a wireless digital city, "Taipei Easy Call" is a joint effort between the city and the Taipei Computer Association and targets mainly schools, government offices and companies.
